How much does a trip to Baduy from Jakarta cost?
Updated 23 October 2026
The first question almost everyone asks: how much will Baduy cost? It depends on whether you go on your own or join a group trip, and which entrance you use. Here is the full breakdown, including the small costs people forget.
The short version
- A 2-day 1-night group trip typically runs about Rp190,000 to Rp280,000 per person, depending on meeting point and season. The commuter train is usually not included.
- Going on your own with 5 people via Cijahe works out to about Rp376,000 each, by one traveller's calculation. That is more than a group trip because the minibus and guide are split between fewer people.
- Our packages: Outer Baduy day trek from Rp160,000, Outer Baduy overnight Rp230,000–275,000, Inner Baduy overnight Rp250,000–295,000 per person.
Breakdown if you go on your own
These numbers come from a backpacker's notes for a group of 5, 2 days 1 night, entering via Cijahe. They are a few years old, so treat them as a guide rather than exact prices.
| Cost | Per person |
|---|---|
| Commuter train Tanah Abang–Rangkasbitung, return | Rp16,000 |
| Lunch in Rangkasbitung | Rp20,000 |
| Minibus hire Rangkasbitung–Cijahe return (Rp750,000 split 5 ways) | Rp150,000 |
| Groceries for your host to cook | Rp60,000 |
| Donation and guest book (Rp50,000 per group) | Rp10,000 |
| Guide (Rp300,000 per group) | Rp60,000 |
| Host | Rp40,000 |
| Lunch on the way home | Rp20,000 |
| Total | Rp376,000 |
Minibus hire is usually quoted at Rp800,000–1,000,000 and can be negotiated. One minibus seats about 13 people, so the bigger the group, the cheaper each share.
Why group trips are usually cheaper
The two biggest costs, transport and a guide, are shared by 8–15 people. Operators also have standing arrangements with host families, so you do not have to sort out food, beds or permits yourself.
Costs that are often not included
- Commuter train Tanah Abang–Rangkasbitung return, about Rp20,000.
- Minibus Rangkasbitung–Ciboleger if you meet at Ciboleger, roughly Rp20,000–50,000 each way according to various accounts. Fares can change.
- A porter to carry your bag, and a trekking pole.
- Tips for your guide and hosts. Not required, but customary.
- Snacks, souvenirs such as weaving or honey, and the return via Cijahe if you want a faster way out (usually extra).
Ways to save
- Start from Ciboleger if you are already near Rangkasbitung. Prices are usually lower because the minibus is not included.
- Bring friends. For private trips the price per person drops as the group grows.
- Avoid national holidays and year-end. Many operators add a surcharge on busy dates.
- Check what is included. Two packages at the same price can differ, especially on meals and transport.
