Two entrances: Ciboleger or Cijahe
Ciboleger is the most common entrance. It has better facilities and is friendlier to visitors. From here you pass through Outer Baduy villages before reaching Inner Baduy, so the trek is longer but you see more along the way.
Cijahe is the alternative entrance, closer to Inner Baduy. The trek is under an hour, but the road to Cijahe is rocky and bumpy. It takes about 2.5 hours by minibus from Rangkasbitung and you usually have to hire a whole minibus. It suits groups who do not want a long trek.
A suggested schedule
- Leave Tanah Abang in the morning, around 07.00, to reach Rangkasbitung around 09.00.
- Take the minibus from Rangkasbitung and arrive in Ciboleger around 11.30.
- If you are going to Inner Baduy, start trekking before midday so you arrive before dark. There is no electricity there.
- Check the last commuter train back from Rangkasbitung so you do not miss it.
Driving yourself?
You can, but you still walk from Ciboleger or Cijahe, so decide where to leave the vehicle and ask the local management or villagers. Many people prefer the train and minibus because there is no parking to worry about.
Before you go
- Bring cash. There are no ATMs near Ciboleger and the signal disappears in Inner Baduy.
- A commuter-train card with enough balance for the return trip.
- A rain jacket, non-slip shoes or sandals, and drinking water.
